Code of Conduct

Moonshine Adventure Company Ltd is a collaborative, people-centred organisation. We respect the individuality of our customers and the people we work with. We aim to create warm, compassionate communities on our Adventures and beyond.

We encourage Adventurers to…

  • Listen to and get to know each other.
Take time to make each other feel heard by acknowledging and responding to people’s ideas and contributions around the table. Get to know what makes your fellow adventurers tick and help each other have a great time at and away from the table.

  • Make space for each other.
Create opportunities for newer or less confident people to participate in whatever way they feel comfortable. For example, if you know another Adventurer enjoys roleplay, try teeing them up (“Well we’ve got an even bigger axe. Isn’t that right Bog?”).

  • Check you’re not dominating the table.
Have you led the last two conversations with NPCs? Even if your character is outgoing, perhaps concoct an in-game reason to be unavailable (“Oh no! My character has noticed his hair has gone askew.”) to give others a chance to shine.

We discourage Adventurers from…

  • Challenging GM rulings at the table.
In-depth rules discussions take time and space away from the rest of the party. Our weekends have plenty of breaks, and all our GMs are here to listen to how you like to play the game and adapt their plans accordingly. But they will sometimes make decisions that you don’t agree with. Please wait until a break before speaking to GM about any rules issues. The GM will listen to your suggestions and explain their rulings but remember that they have the final say.

  • Playing evil characters.
In general, we don’t believe evil player characters are fun for the whole table. There will be exceptions to this - perhaps an evil character with a strong incentive to be temporarily in line with the rest of the party, one that is undergoing a redemptive arc, or a table where every character is evil. If you plan to play an evil character, make sure you discuss it with your GM first.

  • In-game romantic or sexual storylines, behaviour or remarks.
We understand that some adventurers enjoy making and playing flirtatious characters and exploring romantic storylines. You must have prior consent of the GM and any other adventurers involved before instigating any such behaviour or conversation with another Adventurer or NPC. Consent can be obtained verbally or in writing before or during the Adventure. All adventurers involved must confirm their consent with the GM independently (for example, in separate email chains or one-on-one conversations with the GM). GMs may reject this request for other reasons related to gameplay. A GM will never instigate a romantic or sexual storyline with an Adventurer.

Adventurers, GMs and other Moonshine staff are prohibited from…

  • Bullying, harassment or aggression towards GMs, adventurers or other staff supporting the Adventure.

  • Misogynist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise hateful language or behaviour.

  • Unwanted physical touch, or sexual advances or remarks towards an adventurer, GM or other staff supporting the Adventure, either in-game or out-of-game.

  • Improper use of one's position or authority to manipulate, intimidate, or harm others.

  • Using or dealing illegal drugs.

  • Excessive consumption of alcohol.

Breaches of conduct

Behaving in a manner prohibited by our Code of Conduct, or repeatedly behaving in a manner discouraged by it, may lead to your removal from the game or holiday accommodation altogether as set out in our Booking Conditions.

Moonshine GMs will interpret the Code of Conduct at their discretion where it pertains to Adventurer’s behaviour. Decisions they make about Adventurers’ behaviour are final.

GMs are also bound by this Code of Conduct. If you believe your GM has breached the Code of Conduct, please report it. Your complaint will be handled by Moonshine Adventure Company senior management. The GM in question will not investigate your report.

Reporting a breach

You can report a breach of our Code of Conduct before, during or after the Adventure, using our Code of Conduct Report form or by any other means of communication. You do not have to be a direct victim of any such breach to report it. Leave your name blank if you wish your report to remain anonymous.
